Lives of Pharaohs (5-6 days)
Extended Activity: Valley of the Kings Virtual Tour
(Student) Directions:
You are going to take a journey into the Valley of the Kings in Thebes and explore the many tombs of the pharaohs that have been unearthed by archeologists. You will start by going to this website http://www.thebanmappingproject.com and clicking on the link for Atlas of the Valley of the Kings. You will then be taken to the mapping of the individual tombs of the pharaohs. Here, you will watch an introductory movie, and then click on at least FOUR other tombs to explore.

- As a whole class, students will watch the BrainPOP video as an introduction to the lives of the pharaohs of Ancient Egypt. During the video teacher will have a discussion with the class and elicit a Q&A.
- As whole class, students and instructor will do a close read of the provided passage.
- Students will download the vocabulary worksheet and in Word, provide definitions and examples and save it, then print for their portfolio.
- Students will download and print the pop-up pharaoh activity. Students will review the PowerPoint video and identify the main accomplishments of each noted pharaoh. Students will make a burial map and place each pharaoh in the Valley of the Kings and save it into their portfolio. The instructor will want to download and print worksheet before the activity. - As a whole class, watch the “Curse of King Tut”, discuss and elicit questions from students. After the video and discussion, students will get into their group of four and think and share six important facts on their graphic organizer. The instructor will want to download and print organizer before the activity.
